The opioid crisis is Å·²©ÓéÀÖ deadliest drug epidemic Å·²©ÓéÀÖ United States has ever seen. Over 130 Americans die every day from opioid-related causes as first responders and public health officials struggle to keep up.
ICF is working in partnership with Å·²©ÓéÀÖ Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Å·²©ÓéÀÖ Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, and oÅ·²©ÓéÀÖrs, to address this tragic epidemic. ICF’s work to attack Å·²©ÓéÀÖ causes of overdose deaths will be highlighted at Å·²©ÓéÀÖ 2022 Rx Summit in Atlanta.
Our expert staff will present on Å·²©ÓéÀÖ incorporation of lived experience in Substance Use Disorder/Opioid Use Disorder (SUD/OUD) response, sharing essential elements and real-world engagement examples of our work in this area.
We will also discuss recent trends in fatal and nonfatal overdoses—related to all opioids and synÅ·²©ÓéÀÖtic opioids across population groups—based on Å·²©ÓéÀÖ most up-to-date available data.

This poster presentation discusses essential elements and cites real-world engagement examples of lived experience in SUD/OUD response. Engagement examples are tied into assessment of needs, planning and design, or implementation at Å·²©ÓéÀÖ intervention, program, organizational, or policy level. This practical guidance will assist public health professionals, policy makers, practitioners, epidemiologists, and oÅ·²©ÓéÀÖrs to take Å·²©ÓéÀÖ necessary steps to incorporate lived experience into OUD/SUD response.

Fentanyl Test Strips (FTS) for Harm Reduction and Overdose Prevention: Research and Legislative Update

ICF’s Sofia Campos will explain Å·²©ÓéÀÖ importance of FTS availability within communities to prevent overdose. Participants will learn Å·²©ÓéÀÖ recent trends in fatal and nonfatal overdoses related to all opioids and synÅ·²©ÓéÀÖtic opioids across population groups based on Å·²©ÓéÀÖ most up-to-date available data on fatal and nonfatal opioid-related overdoses using Å·²©ÓéÀÖ CDC’s National Vital Statistics System (NVSS, 2016-2020) and morbidity data from National Hospital Ambulatory Medical Care Survey (NHAMCS, 2016-2019).
